A new year, another chance
Today is the second last day of my break from school...kind of a disappointment how fast it went by, and since work has been almost throughout I didn't manage to get as much done as I'd hoped:S But, I did my best and I'm happy with my efforts^^ I feel like I'm ready to start this new year, and I'm looking forward to the challenges and triumphs that I will surely find a way to encounter:3 Cause I'm going to make this one as good or better than the last one!:D Even if it kills meXDD
Let's see...today I have the translation of the second episode of GRA, from 07.10.27, about curry =)

[Announcer: Japan's beloved Arashi...will welcome Japan's beloved guests...and study their beloved Japan.
(writing) On the way back home from playing outside, that nice fragrance that exudes from somewhere is curry. On a side note, do you know
which country the curry eaten by us Japanese was transferred from? The correct answer in India! ...not. It's Europe. I had no idea. Curry came
over a little over a hundred years ago, and Japan converted it our own particular kind of culture. For example, in Japanese curry there is always
carrots, potatoes, and onions, the so-called 3 treasures of curry. Curry is profound. Today we're going to thoroughly study everyone'e beloved curry.]
Aiba: Arashi's-
Itou/Aiba: -Curry Study Group~!
Aiba: Today it's curry. They say that just from hearing 'curry' you begin to drool, everyone in Arashi. Is that true? (writing)
Arashi: It's true! (writing)
Aiba: It's true ne, that's right ne!
Itou: Today we have the perfect guest for studying curry ne.
Aiba: That's right ne, also on a cooking show, loves cooking, loves curry, it's the charismatic housewife Sakakibara Ikue~!
Ikue: Hi there! Ah, is that so, thank you very much.
Aiba: You like curry?
Ikue: Well, not that much, but it's one of the most quick and easy ways to cook ne.
Aiba: That's right ne.
Ikue: You can be like, 'ah, I don't have any time, I gues I'll just do curry' and you can even eat it the next day ne.
Aiba: Ne-
Ikue: It's not bad is it, it's a convenient cuisine.
Aiba: I see~.
Itou: Well, naturally with curry as with other cooking as well there will be a lot of conflicting opinions. Ikue-san, this time you have a book?
Ikue: That's right. Hey...
Jun: That's almost lewd;P
Ikue: Well actually, since this is my 30th anniversary as an entertainer, 'Ikue's delicious dining table' in such tiny type at the top here is the title.I thought
I'd make use of cooking from my household that everybody could easily learn and use.
Aiba: I see~. Everyone, please go buy one ne. Matsui-san, are you often able to cook at your place too? (writing)
Kazuyo: I do! Today ne, I brought a pot ne. (writing)
Aiba: Behind you ne...
Kazuyo: I make curry in this pressure cooker, so once it's cut it's about 8 minutes until it's done ne.
Aiba: It's done that quickly?
Kazuyo: This is actually a pot that I'm promoting. (writing)
Ikue: It's spacious ne~. (writing)
Aiba: Yes.
Itou: Today we even have a curry teacher coming ne.
Aiba: That's right ne.
Itou: It's the head of the organization of curry researchers.
Aiba: he's written lots of books on miscellaneous curry knowledge and anything to do with curry, it's Inoue Takahisa-san~. Your favor please~.
Just how much do you like curry, Inoue-san? (writing)
Inoue: Just how much? Well, I go around the whole country eating curry, approximately 20 thousand meals. (writing)
Nino: 20 thousand! (writing)
Sho: Amazing!
Inoue: Up until now I've had about 20 thousand meals.
Aiba: 20 thousand meals, meaning-
Itou: Sensei is 39 years old, so 20 thousand meals in 39 years means ne, that it would work out so that he's eating curry twice a day. (writing)
Nino: That much!! (writing)
Aiba: Amazing~.
Kazuyo: Really? (writing)
Aiba: Are there really that many varieties of curry>
Inoue: Oh, there's lots of them. Even in just Japan alone thery're innumerable.
Aiba: There's lots of curious things, shall we study them today?
Itou: Yes, it's very deep~. Well then, let's move along to the first section without delay~.
[Announcer: The first section, lets eat curry's roots. (writing) Now we're going to look back on Japan's curry history and propose quiz questions
about the sporadic events. If they get them right they get to eat some delicious curry.]
Itou: First of all, it's the year 1860. This is fairly far back ne, so this here...tada! Eh~, Fukuzawa Yukichi, in his dictionary [The New and revised
Kae Common Language] introduced curry for the first time.
Aiba: I see.
Itou: Speaking of Fukuzawa Yukichi, Keiou University. (writing) Speaking of Keiou University-
Itou/Aiba: Sakurai-kun.
Aiba: Did you know that?
Sho: Despite that...I mean, it's a dictionary ne?
Aiba: A dictionary.
Itou: It's a dictionary.
Sho: I haven't read that dictionary ne.
Aiba: You haven't read it...Yes! Here's the question! (writing)
Itou: Yes,
Sho: This is the question? (writing)
Kazuyo: This-this? What what?
Aiba: No, not really... (writing)
Itou: This is, um, eh, um-
Nino: What the heck! Don't spoil the mood, you! (writing)
Itou: Sorry. The question is-
Sho: You're just restless aren't you! (writing)
Aiba: The adlib... (writing) The adlib-
Itou: It's an adlib.
Aiba: Really ne, that C- what was it?
Itou: C u r r y.
Aiba: C u r r y, speaking of that, how did Fukuzawa-san read that?
Itou: Right now ne we read it as curry.
Aiba: We read it as curry and such, but what do you think it was?
Kanako: Ku--ku-ka... kuwai. (writing)
Ikue: That's an amazing accent ne.
Kanako: Kuwai.
Itou: That's an interesting idea.
Aiba: You don't know? If you don't know then let's tell you.
Itou: Yes, so sensei...
Inoue: It's corori.
Kanako: Corori? Corori? Corori?
Itou: That's right ne~. So that begs the question, how did this become 'curry'. In the year 1872, which is Meiji 5, there was a book called the 'East-
West Cooking Intructions' ne. Inside this book a curry recipe was introduced. So it was in this that curry first came to Japan.
Nino: I see.
Itou: The oldest curry recipe.
Aiba: yes! (writing)
Itou: So that's when curry came here.
Aiba: Here's the question. (writing)
Itou: Here's the question.
Nino: This is the real question? (writing)
Aiba: This is the real question! (writing)
Aiba: You're a liar!
Aiba: if you can answer this, you can eat Japan's oldest- this first curry recipe, following this there's an old version of curry that everyone can
eat. Here is that curry.
Kanako: The color's kind of different! (writing)
Aiba: It's different ne. Everyone will get to eat it. Here is that curry.
Kanako: The color's kind of different! (writing)
Aiba: Yes. It's different ne.
[Announcer: Curry made from Japan's oldest recipe. It appears to be a seafood curry made with plentiful shrimp and oysters, but it has a surprising
secret!]
Itou: japan's oldest curry, do you wnat to eat some?
All: Yes, I want to eat it~!
Aiba: Then, let's go to the quiz. Well then, this is the question that Japan's oldest curry is riding on: discover curry's roots! (writing)
Itou: Who is that supposed to be?
[Announcer: Everyone's beloved curry. On a side note,do you know how many times a year Japanese eat curry? (writing)]
Jun: Uwa, it's not how many times is it?
[Announcer: According to the statistics of a certain food corporation it seems that we eat it 80 times a year! Roughly 6.7 times a month, so that means we
eat it over once a week.]
Jun: Are we really~?
[Announcer: There's the question: Japan's beloved curry, which prefecture consumes it the most?]
Jun: How would we know that?
Ohno: Yes.
Aiba: So everyone, when you know it come tell me in this whisper box.
Sho: yes!
Aiba: Okay, Sakurai-kun.
Itou: it's the prefecture. (writing)
Aiba: if you don't ge tthe right answer you can't eat.
Kanako: it's the prefecture, not the city?
Sho: Hokkaidou. (writing)
Aiba: Hokkaidou isn't a prefecture. (writing)
Itou: Yes.
Aiba: It's a prefecture! (writing) It's a prefecture, it's a prefecture.
Itou: Within Japan it's the prefecture where they eat-
Jun: Kanagawa-ken. (writing)
Itou: -curry the most.
Aiba: Wrong! It's not Kanagawa-ken!
Ikue: Eh, it's wrong?
Nino: Chiba-ken. (writing)
Aiba: It's not Chiba-ken either!
Itou: Everyone, please don't think about it in terms of population ne. (writing)
Ohno: Iwate. (writing)
Aiba: It's not Iwate-ken either! Are you going to do all 47 of them? (writing)
Itou: We'd like you to get it right sooner than later ne.
Aiba: We'd like you to get it right sooner than later. A hint? A little more of a hint.
Itou: Let's see ne~. It's on the Sea of Japan side of Honshuu. (writing)
Aiba: The Sea of Japan side of Honshuu. Okay, I'll depict it for you with my body ne. (writing)
Ikue: He's good ne.
Aiba: Watch! kanako! (writing)
Kanako: What?
Aiba: Watch!
Kanako: What, what?
Aiba: I wonder if she got it;P
Kanako: I don't get it at all~! (writing)
Aiba: This!
Itou: yes. Ah!
Aiba: This!
Kanako: Ah! I've got it! (writing)
Itou: Hurry!
Aiba: This!
Kazuyo/Ikue: I've got it, I've got it!
Aiba: Correct~!
itou: Go ahead.
Aiba: yes! Yes, yes! yes?
Ikue: I get it.
Aiba: Correct, that's it~!
Itou: So, well then, we'll announce the correct answer. The prefecture where Japanese consumption of curry is the highest is...Tottori-ken~.
Sho: It's actually backwards ne. It became toritoru-ken. (writing; based on Aiba's miming)
Itou: But sensei, the fact that Tottori-ken has the highest consumption kind of feels a little unexpected...
Inoue: Um, well I've actualyl been there, and when speaking of Tottori-ken the local specialty is leek isn't it?
Aiba: it is leeks.
Inoue: What do you eat made with leeks?
Itou/Kazuyo: Curry.
Inoue: It's curry ne. When they eat leeks in Tottori they often eat them with curry. So for that reason it's prevalent. Also, in Tottori-ken the percentage
of females in the workplace is very high,. Meaning that since females are the ones cooking-
Kazuyo: They're busy ne.
Aiba: I see ne~.
Itou: To everyone who got it right with Tottori, congratulations~.
Aiba: So, the people who got it right, go ahead and eat.
Itou: This would be Japan's oldest curry.
Kazuyo: Eh~, amazing.
Aiba: How is it, Matsui-san?
Kazuyo: Mild! (writing)
Ikue: It's true.
Kazuyo: Incredibly mild!
Ikue: It's kind of like the feeling of the curry I ate when I was a child. (writing)
Sho: The taste of th seafood is amazing ne. (writing)
Ikue: Amazing, very good.
Nino: The smell is powerful ne.
Aiba: Powerful.
Itou: Well everyone, I'd like you to lsiten as you eat. Here is the front cover of the 'East-West cooking instructions'.
Aiba: Yes.
Itou: Yes. And we're going to go into detail about what exactly is inside this curry. Sensei, if you please. Yes, this would be it. There's chives, ginger,
garlic, and vegetable fat in it. The meat is chicken, shrimp, red snapper, oysters-
Kazuyo: Red snapper?
Itou: yes, there's red snapper in it too. And-
Aiba: What's this hiidng?
Itou: Eh, furthermore there seems to be one more thing inside it, shall we take a look? Japanese brown frog.
Ikue: Eh~! (writing)
Aiba: Brown frog?
Sho: It was in there just now? (writing)
Nino: It's in there right now?
Kazuyo: Eh~!
Ikue: Eh! It's in there right now? (writing)
Kanako: I ate brown frog~.
Aiba: There's brown frog in this curry.
Kazuyo: Frog has substance to it ne. (writing)
[writing: Unmoved by anything, the charismatic housewife]
Aiba: Positive, positive!
[Announcer: It seems that the curry made with Japan's oldest recipe was quite a meal]
Itou: So, next ne, in the years 1908 and 1927...please take a look at this. In 1908 chilied curry is born. And then after that, in 1927 curry bread is
born, which means that they were beginning to be creative with curry, right sensei?
Inoue: Yes.
[Announcer: The year 1908; a soba shop in Nakameguro called Asamatsuan thought up chilied curry as a reaction to the popular western food.
They currently make it the same as back in the day, it's an item that really has some history. And, in 1927 the place where curry bread was born
was Cattlea in Koutou-ku. At the time it was sold as western-style bread. Even now it;'s a super popular item that always sells out that very day.]
Itou: Only, it still wans't something that every household made, like it is now.
Inoue: That's right ne.
Itou: That's what this means ne.
Aiba: I see.
Itou: What caused the large diffusion was in 1968, this here. Boil-in-the-bag curry went on sale.
[Announcer: In the year 1968 the world's first boil-in-the-bag curry was born. Curry become yet na even more familiar prescence.]
Aiba: Do you find this nostalgic?
Kazuyo: Of course~!
Aiba: There's places where you can buy this even now.
Kanako: Eh~.
Aiba: Okinawa. Only in Okinawa, in this package-
Itou: -do they sell it.
Aiba: -do they sell this curry.
Kanako: it's like an old edition ne.
Aiba: Ne.
[Announcer: 24 years after boil-in-the-bag curry went on sale, in 1992, it went into space with astronaut Mouri Mamoru-san. This is video of a curry
party inside the spacecraft in 2004. It seems that the astronauts of the other countries all gave it great reviews. In the year 2000 Wakata Kouichi
also brought curry with him to space. The curry from that occasion was this konbu curry. (kind of seaweed). The konbu curry sold from Hokkaidou's
Buttoukan is space curry that even those who haven't been to space can freely taste. Mmm, I want to try eating it.]
Itou: Yes.
Aiba: I see. There's still one left ne.
Itou: And, as well, it's really recent so I think that everyone will know this, but in 2003....
Jun: 4 years go.
Itou: This here: the curry soup that was born in Hokkaidou became a national phenomenon ne.
Aiba: That's right ne.
[Announcer: Even now the fans of curry soup are increasing. The curry soup that was born in Hokkaidou came down from the norhtern lands to
the whole nation. A new page has been written in Japan's curry history.]
Itou: What caused the curry siup boom?
Inoue: That ne, is firstly becuase it uses plenty of Hokkaidou vegetables-
Kanako: It's filled with the Hokkaidou vegetables.
Inoue: And it seems has a good nutritional balanc doesn't it,
Itou: Yes.
Inoue: The fact that the curry is so thick means that it has lots of nutrition ne. And curry's easy to eat as a soup.
Itou: There are a lot ofpeople who eat curry as a soup. This time it's the next question.
Aiba: yes.
Itou: This is the question that has the konbu curry riding on it.
Ikue: This looks delicious.
Kanako: This looks delicious~!
Aiba: This is amazing ne.
[Announcer: After you eat spicy curry the inside of your mouth is on fire. Everyone, what do you do? That's right, of course you drink water ne?
However, that's a mistake! That's just a stop-gap solution. As to why, the cause of the spicyness, capsacin, acts on the trigeminal nerves for at
least 15 minutes, so you'd have to continue drinking water that whole time. Ah~, that's a pain in the butt. Here's the question: there's a magic food
that will suppress the spicyness after you've eaten spicy curry. What is it?]
Aiba: That's right. Matsumoto-kun is saying that he knows it.
Itou: He's saying he knows it?
Jun: I've heard about it...
Itou: Go ahead, go ahead. The magic food that will suppress the spicyness after eating spicy curry, what is it?
Jun: Yogurt. (writing)
Aiba: Wrong!
Jun: Ah, it's wrong...?
Ikue: Then...
Aiba: Wrong.
Ikue: Can I go?
Aiba: Yes.
Ikue: Yogurt. (writing)
Aiba: Wrong, that's the same answer he gave.
Jun: You gave the same answer ne.
Ikue: It's yogurt ne.
Itou: Just now, of course...naturally, there's an element from what was given as an answer right now inside of it. (writing)
Jun: An element??
Itou: It's an item with a lot of elements blended together.
Ohno: Fukujin pickles. (writing)
Aiba: It's not Fukujin pickles.
Jun: It's okay, it's okay.
Ikue: It's something to eat ne?
Kazuyo: Something to eat ne?
Itou: It's something to eat.
Ikue: It's not something you drink?
Aiba/Itou: Correct~!
Kanako: I got it!
Aiba: Quick, very quick!
kanako: Amazing! (writing)
Aiba: Kanako-sen, over here.
Kanako: I simply said what I wanted to eat! (writing)
Itou: That's a big hint! Kanako-chan said it's something she wants to eat.
Kazuyo: Tomato. (writing)
Ikue: You did something you want to eat? Something you want to eat?
Kanako: Something I want to eat.
Aiba: Wrong.
Itou: It's not tomato.
Kazuyo: Wrong...
Ikue: Something that Kana-chan wants to eat ne.
Kanako: That's right.
Aiba: Something that Kana-chan wants to eat. Correct~! Correct~. Correct~. Correct~.
Kanako: Imagine it, imagine it! (writing)
Kazuyo: Something that Kana-chan wants to eat?
Aiba: Correct~. Correct, correct. Correct~!
Kazuyo: Correct!
Aiba: Correct~. That's it~!
Sho: Hey!
Itou: That's too bad~.
Aiba: Too bad~. Which means ne-
Itou: Which means ne, that I'd like to show the answer. The magic food that suppresses spicyness after eating spicy curry is...(writing) this here.
It would be ice cream.
Aiba: Ice cream.
Inoue: Um, after you eat it it burns and hurts doesn't it?
Aiba: Yes.
Inoue: First of all, it has a cooling effect.
Itou: A chilling effect, yes.
Inoue: So after that, spicyness is actually a stimulus, so well, they say that if you eat something sweet is suppresses it from above. So the best
thin for attacking from both directions of course would be ice cream.
Aiba: I kind of want to try doing it ne, that trick ne~.
Itou: Well then everyone, please eat the curry that went into space~.
Nino: yes!
Ikue: Oh, it looks delicious~!
Jun: Konbu curry.
Ikue: Eh~, delicious~.
Kanako: It's incredibly thick.
Kazuyo: It looks good for your body.
Ikue: You're right.
Kanako: Thanks for the food~!
Aiba: Does it taste like konbu?
Jun: It does, it does.
Nino: It does.
Aiba: It does?
Jun: It really pervades your nose, the smell of the konbu is amazing. (writing)
Kazuyo: The konbu is syrupy! (writing)
Ikue: That's right~.
Kazuyo: It's really syrupy.
Aiba: Syrupy?
Ikue: Ne.
Kazuyo: It's delicious.
Ikue: I've never put konbu in curry before.
Nino: Sensei! Sakurai-kun's been staring at us an incredible amoutn for awhile now. (writing)
Aiba: sakurai-kun! (writing)
Sho: Right now ne we though up a counter-plan ne! (writing)
Ohno: Yes.
Sho: The two of us made a promise. (writing)
Aiba: Ah, what is it?
Sho: Tomorrow ne, I'm going to Hokkaidou for work, so I said I'd buy some~ ne. (writing)
Ohno: Thanks! (writing)
Aiba: So that's what it's about?
[Announcer: With konbu curry you can feel like an astronaut too;P Hidden flavors, what is~ this? (writing) The flavor of curry changes from home
to home. Depending on the person who makes it and the preference of the person eating it a lot of flavors exist. Which means that the second section is studying the
hidden flavors!]
Itou: This ne, is where we study the shadow figure, the hidden flavors.
Aiba: Ah, I see.
Itou: And in the end everyone ne, the curry with the hidden flavor that sensei here recommened.
Ikue: We'll eat it?
Aiba: You'll eat it and tell us what it is.
Nino: I see.
Aiba: That what it is ne. We readied this for today.
Itou: Yes, this is it here.
Aiba: We name this is the hidden flavor hexagon ne.
Itou: Yes. The six hidden flavors, substance, depth, acidity, aroma, spicyness and sweetness. So these are to indicate which effec the hidden flavor has.
Inoue: That's right, that's right.
Itou: That's what it is ne.
Aiba: That's right, let's start with substance. What do you think 'substance' is everyone? What about Matsui-san?
Nino: ne, this is what I think but, wouldn't it be sauce or something?
Itou: That's exactly what it is.
Aiba; Ninomiya is correct.
[writring: Soy sauce]
Kanako: Amazing~! I've eatn it but I had no idea.
Aiba; So...
Itou: Something that gives depth..
Aiba: Let's go to depth. Something that bring sout bitterness-
Kazuyo: Chocolate. (writing)
Aiba: Oh, Matsui-san!
[writing: Instant coffee, chocolate]
Kazuoy: Oh, amazing~!
Aiba: Correct~.
Itou: IF you put in instant coffee or chocolate it will give depth.
Aiba: Whose curry is it where they put in coffee ne?
Itou: Since it's a hiddne flavor-
Aiba: You don't put in that much?
Inoue: That's right ne, with hidden flavors you just put in a tiny bit.
Itou: Please only think about putting tiny bit in everyone.
Aiba: I see.
[Announcer: Here is the hidden flavor that gives acidity: tomato and vinegar. They're the perfect thing to use when you want to finish it cleanly.
Tomato will also increase the deliciousness, so we recommend it. When making curry with roux or curry powder then cumin and cardamum are the hidden flavors
that give fragrance. It'll change it into your very own original fragrant curry. When you want to up the spicyness, then of course it's these. (cayenne
pepper and black pepper). Since they're supposed to be hidden flavors beware of adding too much! Lastly is the tasteful sweet hidden flavor. If you
grate and boil banana and apple and add it to the curry it will be instantly milder. On a side note, lately soy sauces for use in curry have gone on sale.
Japanese are adding their country's national flavor to curry. Mm, curry really does have depth.]
Itou: Everyone.
Ikue: Yes!
Itou: I believe there's curry at hand.
All: Yes.
Itou: So, in actuality, in that curry ne, to make the curyr more flavorful than usual there's a certain hidden flavor. So, guess what flavor it is. And,
to the people who get it right will be able to partake in this kareimai, which was devised to make curry even more delicious.
Kanako: Ah, you have that too?
[Announcer: Devised solely for the purpose of making curry more delicious, kareimai. It's tender but there's not much stickiness o the surfaces;
a kind of rice developped from selective breeding to go well with Japanese curry.]
Itou: How is it, are you getting the spice? It's getting spiceful ne.
Kanako/Kazuyo: It is.
Itou: So, what's in it that made it so spiceful, guess the hidden flavor please.
Sho: Yes.
Aiba: Oh, Sakurai you're fast ne! You're fast ne.
Sho: The smell is extremely different from before ne. Almonds. (writing)
Itou: It's not almonds, unfortunately.
Kanako: Ah, yes!
Aiba: Kanako-chan.
Kanako: Cinnamon. (writing)
Aiba/Itou: It's not cinnamon either~.
Kazuyo: I thought it was cinnamon too.
Kanako: Eh, is that so?
Itou: Um~, let's see ne, they might not sell it at the supermarket ne. (writing)
Kanako: Eh~?
Kazuyo: Eh~, they don't sell it? (writing)
Ikue: They don't sell it?
Aiba: They might not sell it.
Itou: You have it at home. (writing)
Ikue: We have it at home?
Itou: They don't sell it at the supermarket but you have it at home.
Kazuyo: It's not tooth powder? (writing)
Aiba: it's not tooth powder.
Itou: it's not tooth powder, but it might be the same concept.
Aiba: Ikue-san, do you get it?
Itou: They don't sell it at the grocery store. (writing)
Ikue: Ah, I'm wrong.
Itou: It's actually something ne, that you use in the form that you put it into your body. (writing)
Ikue: You put it into your body...
Itou: Yes.
Jun: Mouth wash. (writing)
Aiba: it's not mouth wash. But it's kind of on the same track ne. A powder I guess...
itou: It's something that's basically good for your body. (writing)
Aiba: It's something good ne.
Sho: Cold medicine. (writing)
Aiba: It's not cold medicine~.
Itou: But you're getting closer.
Ikue: Ah, Ive got it!
Kanako: I have no idea~.
Ohno: Salt. (writing)
Aiba: Salt? Follow that line of thinking just now a little more! (writing) Ne! Follow that more closely please!
Itou: Riidaa's funny;P
Aiab: Ah, correct~! Correct, correct!
Kanako: What?
Aiba: Only Sakakibara-san has it right.
Nino: Give us a little more, we haven't got a clue.
Aiba: Sakakibara-san why don't you give them a hint.
Itou: Go ahead and give them hint.
Ikue: We have that at home. (writing)
Aiba: You use it ne.
Ikue: Quite a bit ne, we use it ne. (writing)
Jun: Do you use it for cooking?
Ikue: You don't use it for cooking.
Itou: You don't use it for cooking. Only, it becoming spiceful by adding this is unexpected ne.
Ikue: It's unexpected ne! (writing)
Itou: It's unexpected.
Aiba: Amazing.
Ikue: It's unexpected ne.
Itou: it's unexpected.
Aiba: It's unexpected.
Ikue: It's unexpected huh~!
Aiba: it's unexpected.
Itou: Yes.
Aiba: Correct~!
Itou: One more person, one more person.
Aiba: One more person. Riidaa.
Ohno: Mouth wash. (writing)
Aiba: it's not mouth wash, that was already said.
Itou: Riidaa just now you somehow failed twice-
Aiba: Correct~! Too bad, that's it.
Kazuyo: What, what~?
Itou: The answer: the hidden flavor in spiceful curry is this here.
Kanako: Eh~, you're kidding. (writing)
Itou: The answer: the hidden flavor in spiceful curry is this here. A Chinese medicine digestive aid.
Kanako: Eh~, you're kidding. (writing)
Kazuyo: A digestive aid?
Inoue: That's right. You would buy this at a Chinese medicine store right?
Itou: That's right.
Inoue: All of the spices are at the Chinese medicine store ne.
Kazuyo: The Chinese medicine store.
Inoue: For example, turmeric is also ukon.
Itou: Yes,
Inoue: For example, guroubu is also cloves. Cinnamon is called keihi at the Chinese medicine store.
Kazuyo: I see~! Amazing~.
Aiba: Which means that, we'll gift the three who got it right with kareimai~! It's not on sale yet ne, so please enjoy it. Today we studied curry from
a lot of different angles, but I'd like to ask the guest how it was?
Ikue: Well, I thought that curry must be good for your body ne. Even though I just sampled it a little bit I felt my body feel better instantly. It even
gave me more energy.
Kazuyo: That's right ne.
Aiba: How was it for you Riidaa?
Ohno: Ah, curry is profound ne.
Aiba: It's profound ne.
Itou: It appears that Riidaa is extremely bad with whispering answers into someone's ear ne. (writing)
Ohno: Won't you do X or O? (writing)
[Announcer: How was the curry study group? It's been about 150 years since Fukuzawa Yukichi introduced the word 'curry'. We introduced the
history of curry in Japan right from the oldest recipe onward. With hidden flavors curry shows a variety of different types. Tonight's dinner it's got
to be curry! On next week's GRA they're trying out Japan's wisdom of calligraphy. Can they successfully complete it despite no experience and
nervousness? look forward to it!

Oooh, the calligraphy one looks like fun~:3 I've always wanted to learn that, it looks so easy until you try...when I was in grade 6 my class studied Japan for a bit, and we got to try our hand at it...what a sorry splash of ink that wasXD But I'm absolutely baffled at how at the end there they were guessing absolutely inedible things for the curry!! Seriously, would you eat curry with that in it?? They were shocked about the brown frog, but mouthwash they don't bat an eye?? *scary~* Poor Ohno, it's only the second episode and already he needs them to change the format so he doesn't go hungryXDD But it was so adorable how Sho offered to go get him some anyway, on his business tripX3

Also, it's a little small, but I translated the talking parts of the AAA+ DVD (minus the MC, which was already done) for the adorable [info]yuckie_chan:D

The main parts were, during Lucky Man when they introduce themselves; before and during Cool & Soul where they talk about the tour itself and its meaning; and before Kansha Kangeki Ame Arashi, when they say goodbye and express their gratitude and love for the fans<3<3 Here we go, in order...

Lucky Man

Jun: Yeah! Yeah! Are you ready~?! How's your mood Tokyo Dome? Are you ready to have fun? Are you ready to be happy? It's the Around Asia
last show! The five of us are going to to make you 55 000 people happy! Follow us until the very end! I'm Jun~, favor me.
Nino: Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! This is the last one! This Asia tour that we've been doing for half a year is finally ending here today! Are you
ready?! Are you ready? Let's get worked up until the very end, favor me!
Aiba: Are you getting excited? Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Alright, let's get heated up until the very end!
Ohno: Love! Love! Love! Today's the last one! Let's have the most awesome Dome festival!
Sho: Thanks for coming aboard with us~! Can you see us up there? Alright, let's get this going! Hey yo, come on, come, everybody say 'Arashi'!

Kyaa~, Jun's last 'we'll make you happy', his expression adn tone at the end is to die for<3 Next...

Cool & Soul

Nino: I think there are people who know this, but in the summer of last year we went to three Asian countries in one day for Jet Storm. They were
all places we'd gone to for the first time, and everything was truly fresh. And, more than anything, it made me happy that so many people
were thinking of us. WhenI look back, that may have been the beginning of the Around Asia tour.
Jun: The Taiwan concert was created to respond to the encouragement we received during August's Jet Storm. It's the first concert we've done
overseas. Everyone was a little more tense than usual. We didn't know what kind of concert it would turn out to be. It was a challenge the
four of us innocently undertook. The result was that, even in Taiwan, the emotions of Arashi's music were conveyed. At that time I got the
feeling that we were mounting yet another step on this giant staircase.
Aiba: I think it's because of the confidence we had from doing it in Taiwan that in Korea we were able to do a performance at an even higher level.
Also, in Korea we were able to take part in the Music Festival, and to do a musical exchange between countries. We were able to have a
truly good experience.
Ohno: At the New Year's Triumphant Return concerts we felt the warmness of Japan's feeling of home. We thought a lot about how to convey to
everyone here in Japan the things we brought out overseas. The result is that I truly felt that they became wonderful Triumphant Return concerts.
Sho: And right now we're doing these Dome concerts here on this new set To us this might be an goal. Only, this might be a crossroads. For that
reason as well, I'd like to sum up here today what it was that we have been doing up until now, what we brought back from Asia. I'm looking
forward to conveying that to everyone's hearts newly in this song, in a new message. For that, please listen to the new message from us. Are
you ready? Everything stop. Cool & Soul.
**Song**
Sho: Ah, we solidly represented ourselves overseas as well. From here on is our new message. Please listen with your hearts..Hey yo, listen up.
The clouds crowned with sunlight.
Jun: Not just 'here' but the ocean's other side.
Sho: The dancing 10 seconds slowly approach.
Nino: It's important to be here in the moment.
Sho: Hanging the millenium era on a thread.
Aiba: We've come from a distant island nation.
Sho: The long dawn is becoming morning.
Ohno: We made you wait ne, we're already thirsty.
Nino: The clouds crowned with sunlight.
Aiba: Not just 'here' but the ocean's other side.
Ohno: The dancing 10 seconds slowly approach.
Sho: It's important to be here in the moment.
Jun: Hanging the millenium era on a thread.
Nino: We've come from a distant island nation.
Aiba: The long dawn is becoming morning.
Jun: We made you wait ne, we're already thirsty.
Sho: At any rate we need you people so we can smile brightly and slake our thirst,
your sleeping body gets awakened, instantly wanting us
we'll steal the idol title at top speed
we'll steal the title of 'mike-holding idol super powers'
Ohno: What the 5 of us are playing isn't hip hop, it's a hard-to-imitate kind of Hip Pop right?
Nino: The curtain rises on the stage of the second chapter, try to imitate and you might not be able to catch up
Jun: That's right, the undevelopped areas unexpectedly restart the unfinished great talents
Sho: Causing the union of mountain and wind, bringing everyone into a big panic
Aiba: We're here right now, you're happy, will they be talking about this history in later centuries?
Sho: We might make you wait again sometimes, we might make you wait again sometimes
Ohno: Asia's closeness,
Aiba: Hey look, it's unexpectedly so.
Nino: Unexpectedly mike-holding idol super powers.
Jun: We'll show you that we're popstars.
Sho: These are hip popstars yeah yeah!

Hmm, I wonder how long they'll make us wait for the next verseX3 Finally...

Kansha Kangeki Ame Arashi

Sho: Everyone, I truly thank you for today. It was said various ways in Cool & Soul, but we're truly sorry for making you wait such a long time.
From now on as well we will walk the path that we believe in, with our own methods, in our own special way. From now on as well, please
favor us with your support. Thank you very much for today.
Ohno: Thank you very much. Eh, it was fun. Eh, I'm grateful for today...and for being able to become one with everyone here, in this Dome, in this
wide space. Without forgetting these emotions, I want to play together...together with everyone very soon. Thank you very much for
today.
Aiba: Everyone, I truly thank you for today. I really really love this concert. I always think this but...everyone is amazingly...everyone's smiles become
an incredible source of strength you could say...it really does become my strength to live. I, we...think that it would be great if we have become
your strength to live this time. Thank you very much for today.
Nino: Right about a year ago I came back from America. Eh, at that time there were a lot of things that I was uneasy about, like 'can I return to
Arashi?'. But, the instant I met Arashi I really got the feeling that this was the place I must return to. This last Triumphant Return Commemorative
Concert, Around Asia plus In Dome, I think it's a concert that was created by the fans. But for us this Dome is a dream-like, ambition-like
waypoint. What point will this point lead to and connect with, that is what I'm looking forward to. From now on as well, I'd like to be saying
that everyday. Everyone, I truly thank you for gathering here today.
Jun: Eh, everyone...I truly thank you for today. Thank you very much, thank you very much, thank you. I think that what you saw today was the
8 years that we have walked through since our debut in 1999. You write the kanji for 'Arashi' with 'mountain' and 'wind'. I think that mountain
is the mountain that we will cross over from here on. And, the wind...I think the wind is all of you. When we find a mountain that we have to
cross over somehow no matter how tough it is, all of you blow that wind and easily fly us up, easily let us surmount it. I think it would be great
if we could continue that relationship from now on as well. I want to meet everyone's energetic-seeming faces again. Let's play again. I truly
thank you for today.

<3<3 I always get teary-eyed when I watch this performance>_< Aiba is obviously struggling to hold back his own tears (and I just want to give him a big hug), Nino says something uncharacteristically sentimental and personal, Sho's words are very inspiring, Ohno's are just pure Ohno, and Jun's part...I will never look at the character the same way again:3 It's so clear that they truly love the fans...it really is a symbiotic relationship, fundamentally ne. We give our energy and support, and they make us happy, a continuing cycle of giving and receiving:3 And that they recognize that is something very important to it all I think^^

On a personal note...the sender of my mystery book was my mother actually it turns out^^; So disappointing, wished for a secret admirer there for a bitXD And Ojiisan is still around! This nutty squirrel (pun intended;P) apaprently doesn't know the meaning of the word hibernate^^; I guess it could have something to do with how in the last 2 days it's been unseasonably warm (only -6 to -2 celsius:D)...but still, go to sleep buddy!XD Anyway, I obviously couldn't resist taking more pictures, not when he's right ouside my window;P

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This was a few days ago before it got warmer, it was -25 with the windchill (the wind was so strong I thought I'd get blown away into space...I kinda hoped I wouldXD), my face felt like it would peel off;P Poor guy was still cavorting around as usual though...but I guess even he gets cold, look at him hide behind the tree trunk<3

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Poor darling:S I felt so bad for him I immediately went to check my kitchen for things to give him...then proceeded to crawl out on my balcony (my cat's scratching post is in the way, he was not amused at my manoueversXD) and spread them around^^ I put some on the ground inside the balcony, and I stuck the rest on the railing, sticking up where he can reahc it if he comes closer:) It's only pine-nuts, tortilla chips and whole wheat tortillas though...I didn't have any other nuts:S

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Cleaning that in the spring is not going to be funXD I keep checking but it looks like he hasn't touched it:S Anyway, the next day he was back, and this time he was really active;P I tried to open my sliding door slowly so as not to scare him, but he heard me and ran back a bitXD

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

He was staring right at me as I took the picture;P And he looks rather defiant to meXD He's smart enough to know humans are dangerous, but it's his tree and that's the way it's staying;P

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

He got careless and looked away...;P Well, that's it for that long segment...I'm sorry if squirrel pics are starting overtake my journalXDDD

I think I have finally made my resolution for this year...to finally find a balance in my life...I'm a person of extremes, all or nothing. I can be working myself to death one day and completely lazy the next, perfectly happy with my solitude one moment and desperately lonely another...back and forth, round and round. Maybe it's not possible for me to be balanced all the time, or even most of the time...but I'd like to at least have it some of the time. And my second resolution is to make these dreams I grip so tightly become as real and as bright as the stars in the night sky:3 How about you guys?^^ Any resolutions this year? Besides the ever popular 'lose weight/quit smoking/ensare *insert favorite member's name here* once and for all'?XDD Best luck and best wishes for another year, let's keep walking towards that blue sky in our hearts...^^free web stats

Hi nyanchan, I always wanted to know the new verse of that Cool & Soul. I love that song! Thanks ^^

Ojiisan is so cute! Hope he's well without his usual hybernation time. But the weather does get crazy this time. Here it's said that we're going to get a rainshower this weekend. 0_o Hard to believe when we've got heaps of snow and freezing temp last week.

Ganbare with your balancing act!! :)

THANK YOU!!!!

My first time requesting and you did all I mentioned, I'm so touched T_______T But ne, I was glad I asked for the kansha kangeki talk too, I don't know they say the best things!!!!! (LOL playing rida xD like something aiba would say). Anyway, sho is indeed inspiring, and when I read Jun's... OMGGGGGGGGGG ain't he's so sweet??? That's so... attentive and caring, really, his words.

Anyway, I just have to start from the most touching part, xDDD The Cool&Soul bits was AWESOME. I know that it sounds a bit like the previous version, but I can see the advancement here. Hmmm... I truly hope for the next verse, not only for another atarashii message, but also for atarashii hip shaking xDDDDDD *HIDES*

and GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~ You know nyanchan, today I took a bit peek at GRA episode 9 and 10 (when I finished downloading usually I check the file to see it's okay or not), and they are not bad, really. It has evolved and being much better, so probably you will have something to look forward to when every episode is done ;) I even drowned too deep and ended up watching the whole episode 10 because it was so fun xDDDDD

p.s: I remember you talked about icons yesterday. I just want to ask, did you get my email containing a new icon which match this layout? at first I thought you didn't put it because you don't like it, but come to think of it, if there's 120 slots why not you put that 1 xDDD anyway, just to make sure. And anyway, I can offer to make you simple icons from your favorite pics (the ones you uploaded for this layout), but that is only simple ones, like without much effect, so it can take much less time (if I make like usual, 1 icon can take 4 hours xDDDDD). I thought this would be okay as long as your iconslot get filled first, then when it's full you can throw those simple ones someday ^^ How about it?

I remember watching the AAA+Dome the first time and tearing up a bit when Aiba said his goodbye... and I had no idea what he was saying then!
Now reading it, it does look like he had a bunch of emotions he didn't know how to express, that sweet boy ^_^
All the members spoke from the heart and like you said even Nino got a bit emotional. This is what sets them apart.
The GRA episode sounds like fun, better than the first definitely lol
Now I want to try some curry XD

And Thank you for the beautiful sentiments for this New Year. This year I will also continue to do my best. My resolution is to travel. Living in a tiny island makes you want to hop on a plane all the time!
Also to study hard on my Japanese!

I hope this year will bring you lots of happiness!

Mm, Japanese curry is really good:D But no toothpaste thanks...^^;

You're veyr welcome:) Good luck with your resolution!^^

<3 Cool and Soul translation!!!! I remember watching it and thinking, "These are definitely not the same lyrics as on the CD!"

The tale of the squirrel continues! Hopefully he'll get the food from your balcony! He must be having a really hard time looking for food otherwise!

Good luck with your resolutions! I don't keep any, because when I decide to break them, I come up with loopholes and other excuses to rationalize my wrongdoings. Especially when it comes to food. ^^;

Also thank you for the translations for Cool and Soul. Now I know what the new message was ^v^ and it was beautiful!
Is it me or has Ojiisan gotten a bit more fluffed up? He (is he a He?) is soooooooo cute!! Have u tried feeding him freeze-dried nuts and raisins? ^v^ works for hamsters... maybe it will work for Ojiisan ;p

Nino he surprised me with his words... now I understood what he said. The emo in the guy is coming out. I'm actually happy about that.

And Jun he continues to amaze me each time he speaks. Thank you Junkun you've brought me to a wonderful place.

Nyan-chan hi hi! Thank you for the new translations. Especially the Cool & Soul ones. They're such great guys. I haven't actually seen them saying their ending messages yet, but now that you said that Aiba almost cried, I'm going to watch it right away. I'm a sucker for boys crying.

I know how you feel about break being over way to fast. I wish it would go on a little longer. That squirrel is nutty! You're right, he needs to go back to sleep.

My resolution this year, (besides the ever existant one to lose weight) is to let go of all fear in math and do all of my homework. The other one is to learn enough Japanese to be able to go over as a foreign exchange student.

Have a great new year and ganbattene!!

Hi girl
you probably and most likely xD dont know me at all but i came here to make a request from you.
It seems that you translate Arashi stuff and a friend of mine wanted us to translate them as well but to spanish so here comes my request.
Do you have any problem with us (us as in Sakura Bentou Fansubs) translating your stuff to spanish?? Of course always proper credits and we will use our own subs, not taking any soft subs and so.
If thats okay with you we will make proper credit back to you here in LJ and each episode will have you in it, if you would like something else please do mention to us if that helps us to get your agreement with us using your subs.
i hope you read this and thanks for translating.

Heya;)
Sorry, I have not had the pleasure^^
No, I have no problem with those terms, thank you very much for being so kind as to ask:) I think it's amazing how wide the fandom is, and everyone should be able to enjoy it as much as we do^^
Sorry to take so long to reply, it's been a hectic week, if you have any questions feel free to ask =)

everytime I read that yama-kaze explanation, my love for him and Arashi shoots up. they really love and value their fans, as if their actions are not enough, they have to say it through words <3

and that ojisan sure is cute, first time we get to see him up front ^^

THANKS SO MUCH! ♥
haha, poor Ohno!! He just seems to be really bad at these sort of quiz things ne? But he completely owns in the calligraphy. It's so pretty! ^__^

And thanks as well for the concert trans! Everyone's speeches at the end of concerts are great, but Jun's is so descriptive and ... inspiring? Makes me feel so proud that they are still so grounded~
And I always wondered what the new COOL&SOUL lyrics were about!

The one where Ojiisan is looking straight at you is adorable!! He's a smart squirrel! XD But doesn't he realise he needs to hibernate??

Ahhhh~ Your resolutions are great! I wish I could be that determined! Let's see, my resolutions for this year were 1) get back to my normal weight (too much time in front of laptop = fat :P), 2) get a proper job and 3) study like hell and pass my exam in March. But somehow, I don't think it'll work out #_#

Keep warm ne! Especially if -6 to -2 is "unseasonably warm"!!!! *sends some sunshine and warmth*

Hehe, you're most welcome!:D
Cool~, I can't wait to see his calligraphy, he never ceases to amaze me with his skills...:3 Too bad he sucks at quizzes thoughXDD

Yeah, they are reaslly grounded aren't they...it feels like they really are close to us despite the distance:3 Hehe, now you knowXD

Mmm...maybe not so smartXDD Defiant, yes, smart...maybe noXDD

Haha, I neglected to add my other resolution (cause it fell into the weight category), but it's to go abck on my 'don't eat everything in sight diet'XDDD You know what, if you think it won't happen then it may become a self-fulfilling prophecy...just do your best, and visualize the future you want to achieve...and whatever happens, you will at least have enjoyed the journey:3 Good luck, I hope to hear good things about you soon!^^

...yes, that's unseasonably wamr for us...XDD Soudns so retarded I'm sure;P *basks in the sun*

I very much hope your resolution is successful this year since mine's not too terrible different (throw in a small bit about fiscal responsibility for me!) and I want us both to make it happen. XD XDDD

Thanks for the translation again. I will never tire of Sho being tortured by spicy food. ^__^;;;

And dang that squirrel is cute. Love the shot where he's staring at you (or is that a decidely MJ glare he's giving you...?) <33

I hope you'll have a great semester!

Thanks for the translations as always! :)I really liked Cool & Soul. Jun's explanation of the kanji for Arashi was lovely^^

Wow, he really came back again. Ojiisan is so fat, fluffy, and adorable!! He was totally telling you to stay away from his treeXD I do wish he'd grab some of the goodies you left him and go back to sleep though.

May the new year bring you much happiness and joy!:3
