relax
Yay, it's my first long weekend in months and I'm getting so much done:D Now if only I could remember my clubbox password! *cries* I spent like half an hour trying various combinations, and the password recovery thing just isn't cooperating, I just about snapped my keyboard in half:P Ah well, maybe it'll come to me in a dream...
Here's the translation of this week's Shukudai-kun, with Matsui Kazuyo-san:D Who, by the way, looks like a normal old lady...but she's crazy as a loon! See for yourself:P

Sho: We've well begun, this is Arashi no Shukudai-kun~! Ogu-san, right now you're 59 ne?
Ogura: What's your point?
Sho: So next year'll be a cut off year ne.
[writing: Next year 60th birthday]
Nino: When is it?
Ogura: May.
Aiba: May? Well putting that aside..
[writing: see Aiba]
Sho: Even though we don't want to put it aside!
Jun: What the heck?
Aiba: I heard, Ogu-san.
Jun: What?
Aiba: It seems that Ogu-san did an interview for [anan] today right?
[writing: see Aiba]
Ogura: You're wrong, I-
Sho: The one about men you want to embrace?!
[writing: Ogura Tomoaki, 59, 'men I want to embrace'!]
Aiba: That's it!
[writing: It's a ranking?]
All: *loud chatter*
Ogura: You're wrong. The questions were [How is doing the show with Arashi], [What are the individual personalities
of everyone in Arashi], that kind of conversation the whole time. They didn't want to ask about me at all!
[writing: see Ogura]
Sho: Let's call out the guest! The guest we invited for today is Matsui Kazuyo-san! Come in!
Kazuyo: Good evening!
Sho: Good evening.
Kazuyo: Good evening, excuse me while I take a seat.
[writing: From the guest to the audience...from the audience to Arashi...various homeworks are given out. A show with
audience participation. Announcer: Arashi no Shukudai-kun is where, from the guest to the audience, from the audience
to Arashi, various homeworks are given. Those answers are gradually given out during the show. writing: In the end
the guest reveals an unexpected side of themselves! Announcer: In the end the guest reveals in discussion an
unexpected side of them that no one knows.]
Sho: Well, once again let's introduce ourselves, this is Matsui Kazuyo-san!
Kazuyo: Yes! Good evening, good evening. Thank you.
Sho: Ogura-san is an aquaintance...
Ogura: Yeah, we're acquainted because we're often allowed to work together.
[writing: see Ogura]
Kazuyo: yes.
Sho: Eh~.
Ogura: Yeah, we often work together.
Kazuyo: That's right.
Ogura: In the middle of the year I got a letter from Kazuya-san.
[writing: see Ogura]
Ogura: I was asking myself 'what kind of letter is this?', and it said "My husband is is undertaking a role
in 00 drama this time, please watch."
[writing: see Ogura]
All: Eh~.
Ogura: So it was because of his role.
Jun: Amazing~.
Ogura: That's why she sent it.
Nino: Wonderful~.
Sho: Well everyone, let's move on to tonight's homework please.
Ogura: This is Matsui Kazuyo-san's homework.
Kazuyo: Yes!
Ogura: Submit information on high grade vegetables that are good for your body.
[writing: see Ogura]
Kazuyo: Ones that are good for your body safely and without worry,
[writing: Homework for the audience from Matsui-san, submit vegetables that are good for your body]
Kazuyo: those kind of vegetables are good ne.
Jun: Ones that haven't had agricultural chemical used on them and such...
[writing: see Jun]
Kazuyo: yes, where they haven't used them.
Ogura: Hold it! Don't ask in such detail! You won't be able to stop her!
[writing: see Ogura]
Ogura: If you have that kind of conversation with her you definitely won't be able to stop her!
Jun: Eh~? But isn't that what we're doing right now?
Sho: Aren't there a lot of them? Like if you go to the supermarket or something, aren't there quite a lot of
healthy vegetables?
Kazuyo: But ne, those are no good.
Sho: Ah.
Kazuyo: Since ne, if you don't go take a look you don't know what kind of ground they're from.
[writing: see Kazuya]
Sho: Ground?
Kazuyo: Things like what kind of ardor the people who produce it are putting into it.
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Sho: Ardor?? With regards to vegetables ardor is necessary?
Nino: What kind of ardor is best, for things like vegetables?
Kazuyo: The ones who are growing them safely and without concern, they all have good faces.
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Sho: Eh~.
Kazuyo: The faces of good people.
Sho: So, with that kind of spirit in it, the information on vegetables that are good for your body. Please take
care of it Nino-chan!
Nino: As you can see here ne, there were a lot of submissions this time. This is from the Tokyo, Setagaya area ne, a submission
from Katou-san.
[writing: Submission from Katou-san in Tokyo suburbs, see Nino]
Nino: In Tokyo's high-class residential district, Setagaya - Todoryoki, they're using organic cultivation to grow
vegetables, a place called Oohira plantation.
All: Eh~.
Kazuyo: I went to go see it!
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Sho: You knew about it?
Kazuyo: A few years ago, I went to see- was shown how they were doing things there.
Sho: In a side note, how were their faces?
Kazuyo: Ah, they were good people!
Sho: Good people:P
Kazuyo: They were good people!
Nino: Well, if you know this one too it'll be bad but, this time it's Aomori-ken ne. It's been provided by someone
called Sawayama-san.
[writing: Submission from Sawayama-can in Aomori-ken, see Nino]
Nino: The vegetables they grow in our Touhokubokujyou (growing region) do not use absolutely any agricultural
chemicals...
Kazuyo: Ah!
[writing: see Kazuyo. No way!]
Kazuyo: I know it!
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Sho: Seriously?
Kazuyo: Yes! I know that one.
Nino: Eh~?!
Kazuyo: There was a pamphlet, I saw a pamphlet for that area.
Nino: Ah, seriously...?
Jun: Hey, try and bring out some that she doesn't know.
[writing: see Jun]
Nino: The next one if from Nara-ken.
Kazuyo: Nara-ken?
Nino: It's a submission from Ebihara-san in Nara-ken. Ordinarily, raising fruit without agricultural chemicals
is difficult.
Kazuyo: It's difficult.
Nino: It becomes unstable ne.
Kazuyo: It's difficult...
Nino: Right near us they're raising persimmons without agricultural chemicals.
[writing: see Nino]
Kazuyo: That's a bit of genius ne?
Nino: As always of course, they're quite high in price, but in spite of that they're delicious. They're famous
persimmons.
Kazuyo: I love persimmons!
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Nino: We got one!
Jun: We did it.
[writing: 'High grade vegetables that are good for your body', total submissions 382. Announcer: The submitted
information was from a total of 382 sources. This time they've ordered various high grade healthy vegetables into
the studio. writing: Ordered heealthy vegetables from across the country. Announcer: The vegetable that interests
her will be the one she buys. writing: see Announcer]
Nino: These vegetables...
All: Yeah.
Nino: Well, you know them by looking at them, cabbage, Daikon, sprouted onions, and carrots.
[writing: Aomori-ken, Touhokubokujyou, organically cultivated vegetables; cabbage, carrots, sprouted onions,
daikon; submission from Aomori-ken's Sawayama-san.]
Kazuyo: These are organic ne?
Nino: That's right ne. And after all there a four varieties ne. Hey that hurts!
Kazuyo: He did it ne?
Ogura: He's got a disguise ne.
Nino: Here there are five of them...
Kazuyo: Yes.
Nino: Cause if you buy one of those kind, it's equal to buying five of the usual kind.
[writing: Touhokubokujyou organic cabbage = the cost of 5 regular cabbages.]
Aiba: Eh~, amazing~.
Jun: What? Five of them?
Nino: This cabbage ne, is 525yen, so roughly the equivalent of five of ordinary ones.
Aiba: How is it different?!
Nino: It's a difference of five ne.
Kazuyo: Is it okay if I eat a leaf?
Aiba: No, *how* is it different? (Dou (how) and Go (five) sound alike;P) *how*, *how*"?
Kazuyo: Is it okay if I eat this?
Nino: Ah, go ahead, go ahead.
[writing: In the middle of a cabbage dream]
Aiba: Is it different?
Ogura: It has sweetness!
[writing: see Ogura]
Kazuyo: Uh-huh. It's sweet ne.
Jun: Eh? Is it that different?
Kazuyo: There's moisture in it-
Ogura: There's moisture in it.
Kazuyo: -there's moisture. Here I'll give you some.
Jun: I wonder if I'll be able to tell...
Aiba: Ah, excuse me.
Jun: Here I go.
Kazuyo: The moisture is different.
Nino: You're a complete rabbit, I'm sure you'll be okay.
Jun: I can't tell at all.
[writing: ordinary cabbage]
Ogura; If you eat that one-
Jun: Ah, that's right ne.
Sho: Ah, it's sweet ne.
Nino: You notice the sweetness?
Sho: Well, when I compare it's sweet.
Kazuyo: Exactly.
Ogura: Well, I wasn't really looking for it, but there's a kind of bitterness.
Jun: Ah! It's completely different!
[writing: see Jun]
Kazuyo: See, you can tell.
Ogura: It was different?
Jun: This one is super sweet.
[writing: see Jun]
Kazuyo: You know ne, although these have the face of cabbages...it's just the face.
[writing: Face???]
Kazuyo: This is a true cabbage.
Nino: You know Matsui-san, the people who just start watching now are going to be wonderign what the heck you're
saying...
Sho: We have pictures of the faces of the people who grew this cabbage.
[writing: see Sho]
Kazuyo: Really?
Jun: They've got good faces, don't they?
[writing: see Jun]
Nino: Please take a look.
Sho: Here it is.
[writing: The growers; Orikasa-san, Narasaki-san, Ebina-san]
Ogura: Ah, it's Exile's Hiro-chan!
Jun: It looks like him ne?
Kazuyo: Um, well, although it's a difficult spot...
Nino: It's absolutely difficult!
Kazuyo: You can read from them that they're people who are working to bring you good things that were raised
safely and without concern.
Nino: Yes. There's ardor?
Jun: You can feel the ardor.
Kazuyo: There's ardor.
[writing: Matsui is taken aback at the ultra giant vegetable! Announcer: After this, see writing.]
Kazuyo: What *is* this?!
Nino: In fon of Ogu-san there's a squash.
[writing: Hokkaido Touma Agricultural Cooperative, Black King squash, 1 for 1000yen, submission from Densuke-san
in Hokkaido]
Jun: Squash-san.
Kazuyo: Uwa, this a nice squash ne~.
Ogura: Yeah, the appearance is kind of interesting ne?
Sho: The appearance is super unappetizing.
Nino: Don't say something like that!
Kazuyo: I'll make a report.
Nino: A report?
Jun: Yeah, that's it.
Kazuyo: I'll absolutely report on it. Here I go.
Ogura: On what was formed...
Kazuyo: It's delicious~! Ogu-san?
Ogura: Woah, it's tasty.
Nino: What kind of report is that?
Ogura: Well, with a normal one I can't really tell if it has sweetness or not but...this squash's tastiness is different.
Kazuya: Right, a different kind of sweetness.
Nino: I see.
Kazuyo: There's a lot of created sweetness these days-
Jun: This squash is delicious!
[writing: see Jun]
Kazuyo: Isn't it?
[writing: see Kazuya]
Jun: It's super delicious!
Sho: It's delicious.
Kazuyo: Ne?
Nino: I never seen a 23-year-old like this. Next is this one.
Kazuyo: Yes.
Ogura: Their appearance is awful ne~, these mandarins.
Kazuyo: But-
Jun: Weren't these mandarins picked a little early?
[writing: Organic Store, Very early ripening phase Unshuu mandarins, 7kg for 3764yen, submission from Maeda-san
in Tokyo suburbs]
Nino: They're called Very early ripening Unshuu mandarins, this crustiness ne, if you don't use agircultural
chemicals they don't grow very nicely, but these were grown without any agricultural chemicals.
Kazuyo: This skin, this peel is very moist, very moist, look.
Jun: Mm, juicy ne.
Ogura: Although this is after eating the squash...
Jun: What's that? What's that?
Ogura: Well, usually after eating the squash this would be sour.
Nino: Ah, I see ne.
Ogura: There's plenty of sweetness.
Kazuyo: Delicious~.
Jun: There's no problem.
Aiba: No problems.
Kazuyo: Just like a mandarin.
Sho: Matsui-san, we have their pictures.
Kazuyo: Of the ones who grew the mandarins?
Sho: Yes. Please.
Kazuyo: IS that so?
[writing: Producers; Ehime-ken, Undisrupted Gardens' ensemble.]
Nino: That's amazing~!
Sho/Jun: There's a lot of them!
Nino: And a dog kind of got in there. Is that okay?
Jun: It's fine.
Kazuyo: You know ne, the people who make good things all have this fighting spirit.
Aiba: No matter what we also come back to that ne.
[writing: see Aiba]
Aiba: More and more ne.
Nino: By the way, a kilo of these is 500yen.
Ohno: "500yen, how about it?" (imitating street vendors;P)
[writing: Very early ripening unshuu Mandarins, 1kg is roughly 500yen]
Ogura: They're kind of expensive ne, as you would think.
Kazuyo: But ne, if you want this kind of thing it's about that much ne? How much is it?
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Ogura: Like he said, 500yen!
Kazuyo: 1, 2, 3...
Aiba: How many times is she going to ask?
Kazuyo: And how do I go about getting a receipt for this?
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Ogura: Older sister, you're even trying to recoup your expenses on vwegetables?
[writing: see Ogura]
Kazuyo: Well ne, it's for the cooking books I have ne.
[writing: Matsui Kazuyo's Super Cooking Methods, on sale now from the Housewife and Lifestyle company]
Ogura: That's great, you're always thinking ne.
Kazuyo: It's research.
Ogura: So she needs the expense for the book she's writing.
Jun: I see ne.
Nino: Next are the persimmons.
Jun: These are those rumored persimmons?
Nino: Yes, the ones mentioned earlier, they're called Taishuu persimmons.
[writing: The Doumoto Natural Shop, Nara-ken product, Taishuu persimmon, submission by Ebihara-san of Nara-ken]
Nino: Although it's normal to use agricultural chemicals to keep bugs from eating them, these Taishuu persimmons
have absolutely no agricultural chemicals.
[writing: In the middle of the explanation...]
Aiba: They're super tasty.
Nino: Who said you could eat first?!
Kazuyo: Me too! Here I go~.
Nino: Have some, us too. Hey, store-guy please stop that.
Sho: You're selling them!
Kazuyo: Woah, they're amazing! These are so good I can barely speak!
Aiba: They're delicious ne~.
Nino: So then you haven't had them before.
Kazuyo: Extremely delicious!
Sho: Let's look at their pictures!
[writing: see Sho]
Kazuyo: Oh you bet! They're good right?
Sho: Yes.
[writing: One of the producers]
Kazuyo: Look, just like I said-
Nino: Persimmons? He makes persimmons?:P He's intense!
Jun: He's a good guy, a good guy, definitely a good guy.
Kazuyo: Ah! I could definitely become good friends with this guy.
Nino: The value for four of them...
Kazuyo: Yes?
Nino: 2400yen!
Ohno: Cheap!
[writing: Four for 2400yen (apprx. four times the common price)]
Nino: It's roughly four times the usual price. But, there's heart in them!
Ohno: Cheap!
[writing: see Ohno]
Kazuyo: I'm buying them, they're were so good. I've bought them!
Ohno: Yes.
Kazuyo: I'm so excited!
Nino: This time, I think I'd like to present a rare, very high grade food item.
[writing: see Nino]
Ogura: There's more?
Nino: There's still more.
Aiba: That's super huge ne.
Nino: This ne...just lift it and take a look please, just whisk if off and look please.
Kazuyo: One two-! Ah! A pumpkin??
Jun: Ah~, it's huge!
Kazuyo: What *is* this??
Sho: It's huge~!
Nino: Huge...
Kazuyo: This butthole's super big ne!
Sho: That's the butthole?
Nino: It has a width of 1.3m, a height of 80cm, a weight of 200kg.
[writing: Giant Pumpkin, see Nino]
Sho: This thing's 200kg??
Kazuyo: 200kg?
Nino: A 200kg pumpkin.
Ogura: How much is this?
[writing: see Ogura]
Nino: This is, 50 thousand yen for one!
[writing: Giant pumpkin, 1 for 50 thousand yen]
Ohno: Cheap!
Kazuyo: But, but what exactly would you do with this-?
Nino: This is like, ten year's worth for a family! It works as a pumpkin.
Sho: Masui-san.
Nino: It's an investment, it's making an investment.
Sho: If you're feeling some hesitation...we have their picture!
[writing: see Sho]
Kazuyo: There's no hesitation!
[writing: Producers; the Manda Fermentation ensemble]
Sho: There, look, they've got good faces!
Nino: Although everyone can read this, the producers are Manda Fermentation.
Ogura: It was a Manda-concept pumpkin?
Nino: Yes. This is their beloved giant pumpkin.
Kazuyo: That's right ne? This ne~, I'm going to hold back on.
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Nino: It's maybe a little too big...
Ohno: 30 thousand!
[writing: see Ohno]
Nino: Just give up! Give up:P
[writing: XX-san's image homework. Announcer: Next is image homework. In response to the guest's subject
people from the audience have sent in various images. In the end Matsui-san will reveal a bit of her true self.
writing: Matsui-san will reveal an unexpected side of herself!]
Ogura: This is interesting.
[writing: Image homework; Matsui-san, what did you do last night?]
Ogura: Matsui Kazuyo-san, what did you do last night?
['Matsui-san, what did you do last night?' is the image homework that submissions were received for.]
Sho: It seems that there were a lot of things about you as the housewife of Funakoshi (Eiichirou) in terms of images ne.
In actuality we have those exmples of how the audience views on the VTR right now, please take a look!
[writing: Submission from Hot-hot Couple-san in Saitama-ken, what did you do last night? Matsui Kazuyo, what did
you do last night?]
Fake Kazuyo: My darling hasn't come home yet!!
[writing: Today's accident count, 0 accidents]
Fake Sho: But he's only 30 minutes late right? It's fine~.
Fake Kazuyo: No! Hurry up and find Papa!!
[writing: search request, Funakoshi Eiichirou. Husband, Funakoshi Eiichirou is 30 minutes late coming home and
she puts out a search reqest. Announcer: see writing]
Sho: As you would think the image of you as a housewife is a strong one ne? From the way people see you. How is it
really?
Kazuyo: In actuality we get along super well.
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Nino: Well, if anyone said they were getting along badly rather than well I'd be really surprised:P
Aiba: To hat extent? For example, do the two of you get into the bath together?
[writing: see Aiba]
Kazuyo: Yes, we always get in together.
[writing: Everyday couples bathing]
Kazuyo: We talk in the bath.
Ohno: The two of you, get inside the bath tub?
Kazuyo: Yse.
Ohno: Inside the bath tub?
Nino: What? Why are you asking me? I don't get in...
Ogura: Awhile ago, Funakoshi-kun was getting into the tub and his hips stopped working, it was a very troublesome time.
So he put his weight on her.
[writing: see Ogura]
Nino: He told another off-color story.
[writing: see Nino]
Kazuyo: The bath is really interesting, we each have our own set of rules for it. I'm the kind of person who, when I
get into the bath I just do a quick splash-splash right here and then hop right in. Whereas my husband has a really
conscientious personality so he'll make everything really really clean, and only after making himself
all clean will he get in. And when I've just about finished I'll get out and clean everything.
Aiba: But ne, if that's what you do Matsui-san, then you're the type who hates bathing? With that kind of erraticness.
Kazuyo: Ah, that's right, I don't enjoy it ne.
Aiba: Yeah ne. There are people like that sometimes, who just wrench open the door and just hop right in-
[writing: see Aiba]
Kazuyo: I said I wash right here!
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Aiba: That's fine-
Jun: You can stop doing that.
Sho: Are there any things you don't like about him?
Kazuyo: There aren't...after all any things I don't like ne~. You know ne...he's truly a good person.
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Kazuyo: Thanks to everyone. After all, when I was getting married...everyone was really opposed to it. I had already
failed once (she's a divorcee), there were children, I'm a woman who talks a lot...
[writing: One down, has children, a talker]
Kazuyo: Right ne? So they said I needed someone more charming ne? So when I went and asked everyone what to do
like a little princess they were all opposed to it.
Ogura: I thought the same thing.
[writing: see Ogura]
Kazuyo: After all ne? That's what you think ne.
Sho: At the time when you met, were you nervous?
Kazuyo: At the time we met I thought 'This is it!'
Sho: 'This is it'?
Nino: You found a good vegetable huh~:P
[writing: see Nino]
Nino: Cause he was chemical-free.
[writing: Agricultural chemical-free person]
Nino: You found one without agricultural chemicals.
Kazuyo: Well I was always trolling only within my network ne.
Ogura: You said 'trolling' ne?
Kazuyo: So since I was only trolling my network he pretty much didn't enter in. Speaking of which, I had certain
conditions.
[writing: I had certain conditions]
Kazuyo: Although they ere just vague conditions, they were the kind of 'that kind of person would be nice~'
conditions.
Jun: What are those conditions?
Kazuyo: Well, I'm kind of getting on in years ne? So if possible a younger guy with a lot of energy would be nice ne.
[writing: Matsui Kazuyo's re-marriage requirements; 1) energetic younger man]
Kazuyo: Number 2 would be someone who was raised in a harmonious household ne, I thought that would be nice ne.
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Kazuyo: And the third was, well my son's name is Ryuuichi, it's written with the ryuu from houryuu (stating which Kanji).
ANd my previous husband also had 'ichi' in his name, so the whole family had 'ichi' in their name (Kazuyo is
written 一代 ). So I thought
I had to trick people about my re-marriage-
Ogura: This is amazing.
Kazuyo: - if I could get someone with 'ichi' in their name to be his father, then the 'ichi's would follow each other
and people would be deceived into thinking it wasn't my second marriage.
[writing: 3) A person with a name containing 'ichi']
Sho: To deceive them??
Aiba: What's with that??
[writing: see Aiba]
Ogura: When everyone heard that they were floored! What were you thinking?
Jun: Amazing.
Kazuyo: And the fourth one is, I'm a really jealous person, so I thought if I could get someone for whom it was
their first marriage than everything would be nice and clean.
[writing: 4) person's first marriage]
Nino: Without agricultural chemicals...
[writing: No agricultural chemicals]
Kazuyo: So there were those four things, those 'ah, that kind of person would be nice' things that I was looking
for in my network and there pretty much wasn't anything. That-
Aiba: How did you meet? How did you meet Funakoshi-san?
Kazuyo: Through a television office. When I saw the script, because there was 'ichi' in there...
[writing: When I saw the script, because there was 'ichi' in there...]
Nino: 'It's here!'
Jun: 'It's here!'. So from that one thing at first, you thought 'well I might as well date him'.
Nino: So in the beginning that's what made the relationship possible ne.
Kazuyo: Exactly. So after that I wanted to greet him, I went to see him in his break room.
Jun: The 'ichi' had intrigued you.
Kazuyo: Yes. And he happened to be there and I was thinking 'Ah, pretty good~!'
[writing: Ah, pretty good~!]
Kazuyo: So then I started blurting out questions like 'What's your age?' and 'Have you been married?'
Jun: Eh, that was your first meeting? Amazing~.
Kazuyo: And he had everything I wanted so I was thinking, if I lose this one my life'll be over. so I went
right after him.
Ogura: Just like buying the vegetables.
[writing: see Ogura]
Nino: Truly ne. So that's why first you go to the location and feel the ardor ne.
[writing: see Nino]
Ogura: To judge the face, and then she probably did a fair bit of tasting too I think.
[writing: see Ogura]
Nino: Oh! 'Tasting', wasn't that another off-color conversation!
[writing: see Nino. Loves off-color conversations]
Kazuyo: Well Ogura-san, I was fairly unable to do a tasting.
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Nino: Let's go to the VTR, let's go the VTR.
Sho: So let's take a look at the next submission, here it is, go ahead.
[writing: Submission from Fukuhara-san in Tokyo area; what did you do last night? Announcer: Matsui Kazuyo-san,
what did you do last night? writing: see fake Kazuyo]
Fake Kazuyo: Cleaning, cleaning in front of the entrance-way! Eh?
[writing: see Announcer. Announcer: When cleaning in front of the entranceway, by the time she realized it she had
cleaned the whole neighbourhood!]
Sho: Do you like cleaning?
Kazuyo: I do enjoy cleaning ne, cause I think it's a wonderful thing to improve fortune.
[writing: The Cleaning Book is her second publication]
Sho: Is it nervousness?
Kazuyo: I'm not particularly nervous, although I do have a fair amount of occasions where I think
cleaning is no good ne.
Nino: What blood type are you?
Kazuyo: Type B.
[writing: Ogu-san is also type B]
Kazuyo: My hisband is type B too.
Ogura: Isn't it bad to have B and B together?
Kazuyo: Right? Although that's essentially how it is, he matches with me so we're suited to each other. My husband
said, 'At any rate it's perserverance ne'.
[writing: Marriage is endurance]
Ogura: I think that's how it is.
Nino: Do you settle up everything including the wallet, Matsui-san?
[writing: see Nino]
Kazuyo: Oh everything. He hasn't touched things like his bank card or savings handbook since we got married ne.
Sho: Eh, why is that? So what does Funakoshi-san do for his own shopping and stuff?
Kazuyo: I give him just 30 thousand yen.
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Sho: An allowance?
Kazuyo: Yes.
[writing: The sovereign of a 2 hour drama, on a 30 thousand yen allowance!]
Ogura: Ne, he's working that hard and he only gets that much!
Jun: I think that's pitiful!
Kazuyo: But ne, it's not 30 thousand yen a month, it's whenever he uses it up. I have a son in his second year of high
school ne, and there's few times when my son doesn't have much money and he turns to Funakoshi-san.
Ogura: He's in the second year of high school already? The one who was this big?
Nino: So that son who's in second-year high school, how much is his allowance?
Kazuyo: Is it 5 thousand yen? Monthly.
Sho: Monthly?
Kazuyo: Monthly.
Nino: That might be a little harsh...
Aiba: Harsh...
Jun: But...if he buys two CDs he wants, it's all gone...
Kazuyo: When it runs out he goes to see his father.
[writing: The sovereign of a 2 hour drama on a 30 thousand yen allowance!]
Nino: But he only has 30 thousand yen-!
Aiba: It could be that his father is working nights at a part-time job!
[writing: see Aiba. Announcer: Homework for Arashi. The audience has submitted requests of things they want Arashi to do, or to investigate.
writing: see Announcer]
Sho: Matsui-san is also participating in this, welcome!
Kazuyo: Thank you.
Sho: Aiba-kun, let's get this underway.
Aiba: Well today ne, today is fun. Here I go. Tada! Eh, this is homework from the audience to Arashi~. Between
Silky Tofu and Cotton Tofu, which is stronger? (In case anyone cares, Cotton Tofu is so named because a cotton
cloth is laid over the hole-filled mould the soy liquid is poured into, Silky Tofu is poured into a box with
no cloth and no holes, and is so-called because of the texture.)
[writing: Homework from the audience to (Arashi is scratched out) Aiba, Between Silky Tofu and Cotton Tofu, which is stronger?
Silky Tofu, Cotton Tofu, which can be stacked higher will be decided in a contest. Announcer: Silk Tofu, Cotton
Tofu, which can be stacked higher will be decided from a collaborative compairason.]
Kazuyo: This kind of thing...it's Cotton Tofu!
Aiba: Is that so? Then Matsui-san is the Cotton Tofu representative-
Kazuyo: I'm definitely going with Cotton Tofu.
Aiba: She's the Cotton representative.
Sho: Ogu-san probably wants Cotton Tofu too.
Ogura: I'm going with Cotton Tofu too-
Aiba: So Ogu-san too-
Kazuyo: That's definitely how it is, ne Ogura-san?
Jun: Okay, then I'm going over there. The one the two of you think is going to lose:P
Nino: But, no matter how you look at it, that one...is jsut not as solid as this one.
Sho: Why don't you think about it?
Nino: What?
Sho: If that's true, then there's no point in doing this.
Ogura: This (Cotton Tofu) might have some weight to it...
[writing: see Ogura]
Nino: Certainly, there might be some weight to it...
Ogura: But, can that be stacked up?
[Announcer: The Cotton test starts!]
Kazuyo: It goes like this right?
Nino: Yes.
Aiba: I think with this, it's better to take them individually. Ah, look, like Ogu-san...is putting two on top
of one ne.
Jun: 9, 8, 7, 7cm.
Aiba: Oh~, it's sliding, it's sliding!
Nino: So that one's sliding?
Kazuyo: It's sliding?
Jun: About 10cm?
Aiba: 10cm, 10cm!
Kazuyo: This show is interesting!
Nino: Ogura-san and Matsui-san are working their hardset to stack tofu! That's right! That's right ne?
Kazuyo: That's right!
Ogura: We can stack any number of them , we can stack any number of them!
[writing: see Ogura. Status; Cotton Team, 6 units, 22cm.]
Kazuyo: This'll work!
Aiba: He's a very tidy one.
Ohno: He's a tidy one ne.
Kazuyo: It's settling, it's settling!
Aiba: He's doing it very nicely-
Sho: Ok! 24!
[writing: Status; Silky team, 9 units, 24cm]
Nino: All right! It's on!
[writing: Status; Cotton team, 9 units, 25.2cm]
Kazuyo: We're at 25.2, 25.2!
Sho: Seriously?
Jun: Are you doing it differently over here?
Ogura: Hey don't move around near me!
Aiba: Ahh~!
[writing: Silky team collapses]
Nino: It doesn't matter!
Kazuyo: It's working! 30!
Ogura: This one is 30!
Kazuyo: It's holding, it's holding! There it is, we did it~!
[writing: Silky team, 9 units, 24cm, Cotton team, 11 units, 30cm. Announcer: Which means the result is Silky team, 9 units,
24cm, Cotton team, 11 units, 30cm. It's the Cotton Tofu's grand triumph! But what about it?]
Ogura: I think out of all the segments we've had up until now, this one was the most interesting.
Kazuyo: This is kind of a waste, so what should we do with it?
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Sho: We have a solution for that.
[writing: Hot Water Tofu set]
Kazuyo: You have an answer?
Jun: So let's have a tofu party!
[writing: see Jun. An unexpected naked confession of something private! Announcer: After this, Matsui-san reveals
an unexpected side of herself]
Sho: Well, at the end we'd like you to reveal and discuss an unexpected side of yourself.
[writing: Matsui-san, reveal to us and unexpected appearance!]
Kazuyo: An unexpected side...?
Sho: Something that all of us wouldn't imagine from you.
Kazuyo: So it's fine if I do anything?
Sho: Such as...
Kazuyo: For example, I'm perfectly comfortable with going into the men's bathroom.
[writing: Revealed, able to comfortably enter the men's bathroom]
Nino: I can't believe she said that..
Ohno: Why do you go in there?
Sho: 'Why?'
Kazuyo: Women's bathrooms are, by and large, fairly crowded. So I went into the men's bathroom right near by. When
I was in there someone rapped on the door to see if it was free and I said 'I'm in here, please wait a
minute~!' and they're like 'It's a woman?!'
Jun: Well of course.
Sho: Of course.
Kazuyo: Also, I often hitch-hike.
[writing: Revealed, often hitch-hikes]
Aiba: Why are you hitch-hiking?
Nino: In Japan? Is this in Japan?
Kazuyo: In Tokyo.
Nino: In Tokyo??
Kazuyo: Yeah.
Jun: Do people give you rides?
Kazuyo: If I was lucky they'd stop and I'd just hop in and say 'Sorry~! Thank you~!'
[writing: see Kazuyo]
Ohno: Do you go like this?
Kazuyo: Not like that, just kind of 'Excuse me~! Please~!'
Nino: When they're stopped??
Kazuyo: And then when they let me in I'll tell lies like 'Sorry~, I just have to be somewhere~'
Sho: Matsui-san, that's being a nuisance!
[writing: see Sho]
Aiba: It's this!
Ogura: Funakoshi-san, I'm asking this favor of you, please live a long life.
[writing: see Ogura]
Kazuyo: If he doesn't (live a long life) it'll be a problem for me! Please~!

Kazuyo: When I was washing up in the men's bathroom I took a look in the mirror and there was a man behind me!

Omg, she picked her second husband based on the kanji in his name, she walks up to cars and harasses them into giving her rides, she's....missing the filter:P I have a theory you see, most people have this 'filter' of common sense and social awareness that keeps us all on common ground...but more and mroe these days I'm running into people who just never had one, wouldn't know it if it kicked them in the face, and somehow stumble through life without it (to the amusement/irritation of those around them:P). Case in point!:D I loved how enthusiastic Jun was when eating the food, so cute:3 Enough with the toques! And of course the tofu battle...was it really that interesting? I mean it was good but...I thought the field glasses segment was better...

A special announcement here!:D For those who are interested Jun announced a new contest on last week's JunStyle, the winner's letter will be read on Christmas Eve and will receive an Arashic paperweight and note-set!XD He asked that we send in Christmas memories, happy or sad, and he will pick out of them:) The email address is arashi@nack5.co.jp and the subject should be 'Christmas Present' or Kurisumasu Presento:D *excited*^_^

And I have something very special too (for me anyway, I've been saving it for weeks:). The translation of Jun's interview in Glamorous magazine last summer, with all those gorgeous soulful pictures~X3

I'll post each page first cause it'll make it a little easier to follow I think (and I'll take any excuse...XD).

Even if something hurts
Matsumoto Jun
As well as being an idol, he has received high praise from producers and directors as an actor, and says he has
[A desire that nothing will satisfy]. On the other hand he says that right now he is [A weak, tiny great man].
The inside, and sincerity, of his change-loving heart and his circumstances' philosophy of love.
My desire is deep. I want to always be feeling the true feeling of being alive. More richly, I want to become
a different self from what I am now. That's why, more and more, I'm forever seeking things that will sway my heart.
To see a lot of things, to touch them...I can't live without incentive.
Therefore, with love as well stimulating things are better. Because, by nature, falling in love with someone is
[stimulating]. Chemical changes occur in your heart, by the time you realize it you're falling in love with that person.
I don't have a type of girl that I fall in love with. Things like a pretty face on a backwards glance, the sensitivity
that person has, choice of words, bearing, when that something interests me I fall in love, thinking [Ah, this
person's terrific huh~]. In other words, that person's individuality. People all have their own fascinating
qualities, the parts that shine the most are different for everyone, I'm not sure whether I myself can discover
them. That, after all, is incentive...a chemical reaction.
If love has started, I want myself to not demand too much of my partner. Although, [reciprocity]'s significance
might be a natural part of the fabrication of the shape of lovers' relationships. Even though in the beginning being
with someone you love you're doing things you want to do and doing things you want to do for them, as the relationship
goes on longer things like, [Why won't you do this?], [Why won't you be with me?] also come to pass. I think that's
something strange. Therefore, I want to remain undemanding. Again, for example, if on the same day as I have
a dinner date information came to me about an event that deeply interests me being held only on that day, I'd want
to go to that event. So the feeling 'But I have to go to dinner...' would change. Since eating dinner while thinking
[I really wanted to go to that event] probably wouldn't be all that delicious, if that happened I'd frankly say
[Sorry], and depending on the situation, going with her would be good too. In other words, I think a type of
relationship where we can mutually treat our thoughts importantly at that time, mutually be faithful to our own
desires is ideal.

{Always, 'more, more'...I'm seeking things that will sway my heart. Love is a chemical reaction. Stimulating
things are better.}
{This line is missing due to a fold in the page:(} although there may be people who need to feel a sense of distance,
that's not how I am. There are lovers who fight with a staggering amount of energy. They're mutually airing
their own desires and true natures. And there is passion. I think I'm envious of them.
People, to truly become adults, have to expose the essential parts of themselves. On the other hand, babies and
children are in an undefensive state, because they move on the basis of instinct they're extremely pure and easily
understandable, that's part of their allure. Although, if even when they become adults they are able to continue
intently like that it can be a burden on those around them (laughs). Although I may have, in that sense, exceeded
that time period myself, when I see people who are able to faithfully move towards their true self, the roots
of their desires, I think it's fantastic.
Somehow ne, I too feel the fear of getting on in years. Although, due to an accumulation of experience, I am now
also much more able to see things that I wasn't able to see when I was younger.
I think life is something that, while walking a path that doesn't have any one shape, I form myself. You have
to continue walking without knowing what might be one step ahead of you. One step ahead might be a deep valley,
a battlefield with arrows flying. But, also with age, you become able to predict it, say 'this way looks kind
of bad, so I'll try taking a few steps to the right'. Of course, that's a very important thing but...somehow
the me of right now has, continuously on guard, even in tiems it wasn't necessary, been moving onwards laced in
heavy armor. Because I'm laced into that armor there are no exposed parts, I don't get hurt. But, it's heavy,
and I can't feel the sensation of the wind with my whole body. And that also makes me wonder [How does that work?]
with regards to the me that wants to encounter things that sway my heart. Therefore, sometimes I want to break
through my armor.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

{I like it when women tell me [I like you]. But I can't say it. Rather than say the words even once I'll do
fifty, a hundred delightful things.}
When it comes to love, the time I'm laced into my armor might be longer than other people. I can't say [I like
you] to people I like. I'm not good at putting it into words. I'm also told often by my friends that [What you're
thinking doesn't come out]. But, of course, I have feelings of wanting to depend on people. Not limited to love
but in friendships, it's been easy to depend on older women who could understandingly accept me this way.
The older women have, through the cultivation of further experience, a kind of balance as human beings. They've
received various attacks, ridden out various emotions, and despite that are able to stay gentle. I also get
captivated by the innocence of those older females' smiling appearances when encountering them over dinner at night
with good friends.
[A weak, small great person]. That might be the me of right now. Although [great person] is me putting in my
expectations of my future self. It's because I'm weak that I'm laced into my armor now. But I want to change.
Because of that I think, sooner or later I want to remove and throw away my armor in earnest, become a little
carefree. Although in the spring Ninagawa-san (Director Ninagawa Yukio), with whose assistance I was doing the play
[Niht of the Valkyries], also told me harshly in the middle of practice to [discard your shell], [become naked],
in my real life too I want to break through my heart's armor. With the result that, even if something wounding
were to happen, I'd be okay. I want to be able to go without fear into various situations. I want to continue
struggling along. Because I think that this is how, as a person as well as with work, new encounters will be born, and
more than anything, I believe that is where I will meet the new me.

{Although I want to depend on people, honestly it doesn't happen. I'm able to depend on an older woman who can
understand this me}

[Arashi] has a big hit in their new single [Aozora Pedal], released on August 2nd, for details about their
[Arashi 2006 Summer Tour] please call 0180-993-700. [This year's staging is, a style of [Arashi]-like traditional
basics so everyone can relate, and this time, the essence of new things we are trying to do in a prologue sense,
well mixed together that will make for an interesting staging] (Matsumoto Jun)
Profile
Matsumoto Jun. Born in the Tokyo area on August 30th, 1983. '99 was his debut with [Arashi]. In recent years
his projects as an actor have been dramas [Kimi wa petto], [Hana yori Dango], movie [Tokyo Tower], plays [East
of Eden], [Byakuya no Valkyuure] and others. Right now he has hosting duties on [Utawara](JapanTV, Sunday,
7:58pm~). In 2007 the movies [Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo suru] where he has a starring role and [Kiiroi no Namida]
are planned to be released.

This article cemented his hold on my heart way back when. There's a tangible loneliness in his imagery, in his phrasing that sucks the air out of me...the distance he feels between himself and other people began without him knowing why, but now it's become somewhat self-imposed, and that's a hard truth to swallow. Trying to balance the rival desires of reaching out for change and contact and staying safe from harm within his shell is something I struggle with as well, and I feel keenly for anyone who has to do the same. I really didn't expect the part about older women though, that was a surprise...I wonder just how much older he means, or if it's just older in general? And he doesn't say I love you, but he does many other things to make you happy *imagination running wild*:3 His thoughts always inspire me, but this time I really felt uplifted by reading it, like 'watashi mo ganbarimasu!', despite the bittersweetness of it all<3

Genki de ne!:D

Jun really amazes me whenever I read his magazine interviews, read transcripts of his radio show.. and it kills me whenever I see his insecurities surfacing! like, this might be a little shallow but his eyebrows and eyes.. yeah, he really is insecure about those! if only I could whack him in the head and say, hallo jun! you have gazillion fans (and I bet, even non-fans) who'd find them beautiful.. but then again, his insecurities works for him in a sense that he tries his best to make up for the things that he is lacking of. :D

long post. anyhow, thanks for translating! :D

and i have been feeling silly and been teased by my friends for falling for an idol much younger than me. i am to jun is just like sumire-chan to momo. but who can resist junbaby after knowing all these things about him. "that small great man" (but, ohno and nino are much more smaller comparing to you jun-kun) hee hee hee, i sense some domyoji spirit in here.
ureshi, ureshi, ureshi yo, jun likes older women (suprise to read it as a fact and not only rumor) i only need to tell him i like you. and wait for my rewards. but wait a minute, i can't say it too.:-(

Thanks for your excellent translations nyanchan. Wonderful work as usual. I really like the details you add, especially in your variety programme translations.

Also, your translation of the Jun interview has increased my interest in him. You've done your work as a Jun fan! I have heard of this "Jun-bait" but unfortunately I am one of those complete opposites. I was pretty indifferent towards him before, because my passing interest was in Arashi as a whole back in their early years after their debut. Jun was of course just another gawky kid then, with big eyes and buck teeth and kind of weird dancing. However, after quite a long time away from J-pop/idols, I've rediscovered this new Arashi (not to mention Johnny's whole stable of pretty boy bands) thanks to translations like yours and other goodies people have been so nice to share.

*.* Kawaii!!!!!! My heart beat so fast when I read the interview.

I think he doesn't want an older woman because of her age, but because of her maturity. There is no need to say "I love u" when is obvious, i prefer actions not words, action speak louder than the words, ne?

But that's only my humble opinion ^^

awwww...thank you for posting this translation! it really helps and makes me like Jun more, especially when I've only been a fan for abt 3 weeks (junbaited via HYD hehe)

sorry for reading other's comments as well but earlier you said you've been studying japanese for 3 years. How did you do it? I've been studying it for a while, albeit in a noncommittal manner. I guess I'm at JLPT Level 3 (doing the exam this year so I can't exactly say I'm at that level yet) but I really wanna improve in all 4 areas of the language - currently listening is my worst but all 4 ain't that good anyway. So the drive to learn is there but I really don't wanna put my efforts to waste :( So how did you do it? I wanna be able to translate like you too! And when I can do that, I can read Vogue Nippon as well (lol my other motivation...my friends say I'm fashion and model obsessed...XD)

Oh and you mind if I add you as friend? :)

Haha, you're welcome;) That's great, the more the merrier!:P
Well, I have posted about this in the past so I'll link to that cause I'm not sure I could put it any better;) Here;) The methods of success can vary from person to person, but as long as you have that drive I'm sure you'll find the best one for you:) For listening...the tapes helped, but I think the best way is to immerse yourself in it, even if it's just watching things without subtitles, cause over time your brain is forced to make the connections. The way I think of it is, if I were to live in Japan I'd learn better and faster because I'd have no choice since there's pretty much nothing else...so by extension immersing yourself as much as possible should help to mimic those kind of conditions of forced improvement. Again, I can't say my way is the best, but it's worked so far^_^ Wow, I didn't even know there was a Vogue Nippon;P Good luck with that!;)
Sure, not a problem;P

Thanks! 4 translate it!!

*o*

well, I think most of the words he said were in my mind long time ago. That made me think that actually, actually He didn't lose himself. and that's the more important in person, Be who you are and become strong. But with that thoughts I can realize that He's strong, more than he thinks. ^-^
<3 Him!

There are lovers who fight with a staggering amount of energy. They're mutually airing
their own desires and true natures. And there is passion. I think I'm envious of them.

I can fight with you if you want xP!
well, I think actually, I can't say "I love you", it's hard! >.< but I think when someone is in True love, this words flows so easily that you don't have to force it >)

My pleasure!:D Yeah, if only he would realize he has that strength...
Hehe, I thought the same thing!:P And I agree with him that fighting isn't necessarily a bad thing in a relationship, it can be a way to become closer and still remain true to yourself:3
It is hard ne...I'm a hopeless romantic, so I'd like to believe you're right about it being easier with true love^_^

(actually not really, because I don't really know you...^^;;;; But I love your translations!)

Thanks for helping me understand what I thought was a vastly entertaining episode and making it even funnier than before. ^^

How can I thank you ever? You are amazing! I wub you!! *glomp* :D
He melts my heart once again with that interview. I start to think whether he's even 23. His thinking is way beyond his age... the maturity, the intellect, the depth of his thoughts and the choice of words (of course yours too) are so amazing that I find myself so captivated by him and wanting to reach out to him. Aren't we all? ;D

I like it when women tell me [I like you]. But I can't say it. Rather than say the words even once I'll do fifty, a hundred delightful things.
This could be a problem since I have a hard time saying it too. But it could also be good because we will have a mutual understanding like he wants. ^______~

I think this is one of the best articles that I read. Thanks for the translations dear.

*blushes* You're too kind;)
Yes he's amazingly articulate and expressive, it's absolutely enthralling....who could resist?:3 There's a term I like...'old soul'. I think it fits him perfectly, the ageless wisdom, the acute observations, the profundity of emotion...it's inedescribable<3
Haha, I bet he'd be happy to know there are so many people who have the same problem:D
It was my pleasure^_^

Thank you so much for this~ ^^ Actually understanding what they're saying makes it so much easier to enjoy.
Actually, I was wondering if you would let me TRY (since i've never really done it before, and i've a LOT of time on my hands right now) to make subs out of your translations?
Thanks again~
